Laminate flooring is developed by using fiberboard coated with a laminate film and compressed under high pressure to bond the surface seamlessly with the board.
Currently, laminate flooring is still widely used due to its relatively low cost compared to real wood flooring and other alternative materials. However, due to technological limitations, laminate flooring is generally less moisture-resistant compared to other materials.
When comparing laminate flooring with vinyl flooring, the distinction lies in the substrate layer materials. Laminate flooring is typically made from MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) or HDF (High-Density Fiberboard) boards and treated with moisture-resistant and insect-prevention coatings depending on the manufacturer. On the other hand, vinyl flooring is made from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) mixed with stabilizers and other materials to enhance strength and resistance to temperature changes. The surface film of both materials is similar, depending on the quality of the manufacturer.
From a material standpoint, vinyl flooring clearly excels in water and insect resistance. However, it falls short in terms of expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. With recent advancements, vinyl flooring has been improved by adding stabilizers and stone powder to its composition, greatly increasing its temperature resistance and reducing expansion and contraction compared to older versions of vinyl flooring.
